The purpose was to make it more viable to combine heroes from different tiers, and enjoy the full range of heroes. While some monsters were nerfed, top-tier heroes, dwarves, elves, and hero equipment were also nerfed. The mod was meant to change the experience of the game, not just to make it easier. Since it’s been many years, I don’t know if it still works as intended, since the game received expansions and patches – for one thing, towers seem to last longer in the vanilla game – but everyone is welcome to try! Update: I was happy to see that my little mod, that I built for personal use, was mentioned in Steam discussions and other places on the web.
